The cruising grounds of Fiji, Australia and New Zealand offer a temperate ocean climate. Weather patterns, especially in New Zealand and Australia vary with the changes in topography.

Air temperatures range from the low 60's/high 50's in the winter to the mid 80's in the summer. It is important to note that the seasons are the reverse of the United States and the northern hemisphere. The coldest time of the year is between June and September. Prime sailing season in this area is between November and April.

Winds tend to be from the southwest and are strongest in the winter. Winters are not harsh, especially by most northern hemisphere standards.

Range from a high of 82 F during the summer to a low of 77 F during the winter.

Average Temperatures (Australia):
Range from a high of 79 F in summer to a low of 65 F in the winter.

Average Temperatures (New Zealand, north island):
Range from a high of 77 in summer to a low of 60 F in the winter.

The Polynesian islands, from Tonga to Tahiti, offer a warm, tropical climate and seasonal temperature changes tend to be moderate.

The months of March through December tend to be cool and dry and average temperatures are in the mid 70's. The Pacific trades offer constant, steady breezes at 10 to 15 knots. Humidity and higher temperatures can make cruising in December through February a bit uncomfortable.
